FAQ's
The following is a list of questions frequently asked by parents regarding our practice
Q. Are the pediatricians from Pediatric Center affiliated with any hospital?
A. Pediatric Center is an independent, private pediatric office. We are not affiliated with any hospital or medical corporation. All our pediatricians have privileges at both Mercy Medical Center and St. Luke’s Hospital.
   
Q. Which insurance plans are accepted at Pediatric Center?
A. We accept most major insurance plans. Policy coverage varies from one insurance company to another. Please contact your employer or insurance company if you are not sure of your benefits. Please ensure we have your most current insurance information. The telephone number directly to our insurance office is 319 363 0895. Karen or Kathy will assist you with billing and insurance.
   
  Pediatric Center has contracts with the Cedar Rapids PHO and HCF. This association allows for high quality and independent medical decisions. We are able to maintain quality care at a local level and at a reasonable price.
   
Q. How do I get advice about my child's symptoms or concerns?
A. Telephone advice and education is provided by our highly skilled pediatric nurses. You may call any time during our regular office hours for answers to your questions. In the event that our nurses can't help you with a problem, it will be answered by one of our physicians in a timely matter. Urgent after-hours questions are handled by our physicians through our answering service (see below).
   
Q. How do I reach a doctor after the office is closed?
A. Our of our physicians is always on call. Call the office at 319 363-3600 which will be answered by a answering service. The operator will take your name and information and then will page the physician on call. A physician will return your call within 20 minutes. In the unlikely event you have not been called within 20 minutes, please call the answering service again.
   
Q. Where do you refer your patients if a specialist consultation is needed?
A. We refer patients to the physicians and other health care providers of multiple surrounding areas and to local independent physicians and groups. We work with families to find the best care possible for your children.
   
Q. Where will my child go if he or she needs to be hospitalized?
A. We are affiliated with both hospitals in Cedar Rapids. It is the families’ choice to be hospitalized at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids or St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. All of our physicians have hospital privileges at both hospitals.
   
Q. Will my child be seen by the pediatricians of Pediatric Center in the hospital or by the hospitalist?
A. Our pediatricians strongly believe in the continuity of care for the patient and family so our pediatricians will see your child/adolescent during their hospital stay.
   
Q. Will my newborn be seen by the pediatricians of Pediatric Center in the newborn nursery?
A. Our pediatricians will see your newborn baby while in the newborn nursery.
   
Q. What is a "Well Child Check"?
A. The "Well Child Check" is a 15-20 minute visit dedicated to reviewing the routine aspects of your child's health (feeding/nutrition, sleep, behavior and development, safety, etc.) These include developmental care education and immunizations per the American Academy of Pediatrics schedule.
   
Q. How often should I schedule a Well Child Check for my child?
A. We follow the schedule of routine well child visits established by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The initial newborn visit is at 2 weeks of age. Routine well child visits are then scheduled at 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15 months of age and 2 years of age. Yearly visits are scheduled after the age of 2.
